The once proud Mountain House, in the process of "remodeling". The famous piazza was heavily damaged by the huricane of Nov. 1950, it's north wing (right) was removed in 1952, and this picture was taken in 1953 during the removal of the south wing. The planned renovation never happened.

The removal of the two wings, and the failure to quickly rennovate, destabilized the building to the point that by the time the state acquired the property in 1962, it was too late to be restored. The Mountain House was burned by the NY State DEC on Jan. 25, 1963.

From an original slide taken in 1953, probably late spring, photographer unknown.
