THE MOUNT PLEASANT HOUSE.
This typical summer hotel is now very generally called the "New
Mt. Pleasant House" so completely has it become transformed
within the past season. Its situation was always captivating,
for it is on the Ammonoosuc plain between Fabyans and the Base
Station, and in full view of the stupendous Presidential Range.
Ascending and descending trains upon Mt. Washington are visible,
yea, more than visible, from these verandas. It is in contemplation
to remove all the stumpage upon the plateau between the Mt. Pleasant
House and the Base, and make the land thus restored into lawns,
walks and drives which shall extend to the foot of the Presidential
Range itself. The house sets in a "heater" between two
railroads; it has the Maine Central at its back and the Boston
and Maine in front of its doors. It is therefore very accessible
from all quarters.
